The short answer is yes. The following applies to you if you are in CALIF so it might be different in your state. But I doubt it will be that different because these are FEDERAL EXTENSIONS which should apply to everyone in the USA who are receiving UI benefits. Because of these Federal Extensions we should be getting 3 extensions depending on when you ran out of PEUC (this only applies to those who qualified for PEUC). You will be on your second extension. This is from the EDD website (https://www.edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019/cares-act.htm#PEUC) Again this is the timeline for CALIF:
The first 13 weeks are available from March 29, 2020 to September 4, 2021.
After collecting the first 13 weeks, an additional 11 weeks are available beginning on or after December 27, 2020 to September 4, 2021.
After collecting the first 24 weeks, an additional 29 weeks are available beginning on or after March 14, 2021 to September 4, 2021.
When you continue reading on the above page if run out of PEUC funds and you're in your benefit year you'll be automatically filed for a PEUC extension. Once you go through the 11-weeks (which will not get you to the Sept 4, 2021 deadline when PEUC expires), you're supposed to be automatically enrolled in another 29-weeks of PEUC benefits. Again this applies to CALIF, but this process is all "automatic" so you have no control as to when the EDD will activate your extensions. You basically have to wait because you won't be able to certify, you can't file a new claim, and it's very difficult to get someone to answer when you call. So you could be waiting for months. I have been waiting for the second extension of my PEUC since August, my first PEUC extension only got me to June 2020, and then I find out the second extension starts on or after 12/27/20, and I didn't qualify for the FED ED extension because you had to have applied for UI on or after a specific date (all information that was not available when I was researching all of this in August - December). On Feb 12, 2021, I get a message in my UI box that says I qualify for the 11-week extension and I should be able to certify beginning the first weeks of March (during the months from my last payment I couldn't certify, I couldn't file a new claim, and my account read "0" and that I was on extension, and my weekly benefit was a little over $200 (not including the $300 addition). So March has come and gone and my account is still the same and I haven't been able to certify.
This might be due to the newest 29-week extension that was just approved in March and so that may have caused them to update the system which kept some of us in limbo. On the same webpage from above at the beginning it explains the newest legislation and that those on PEUC should be able to start certifying for new weeks on your PEUC claim by April 30, 2021.
So unless you get specific instructions from the EDD that says you've been denied, you have to reapply, or anything else, you'll just have to wait.
For my PEUC benefit, I only learned about it by doing research on the EDD site and the CALIF Labor Board. The EDD was supposed to contact me and inform me about the PEUC extension but that never happened until a week or so when I would be able to certify. What made this terrible was that my original claim and extensions ended in March 2020. I found out about PEUC in May or June, and then found out that those who qualified for PEUC the extension would roll out in 2 phases and depended on when you either filed for UI or when you ran out of benefits I forgot which date but that's what determined which phase you were in, but the first phase began in May and the second phase (which I was in) didn't begin until July. I didn't get to certify until August.
Even though my benefits were retro-active meaning I got the 13-week extension and it picked up where my original claim ended in March --which took me to June-- I was never informed by EDD until a week before and I could NOT get a live person on the phone.
Now for the second extension: I have been waiting since August and until I got the email on Feb 12 nothing. And I still can't get anyone on the phone. Hopefully that won't happen to you but I put this in so you get an idea of how long it could take from your first PEUC extension to the next (and I'm still waiting because I haven't been able to certify yet).
