I'm an independent contractor and one of my clients received a "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Claim Filed" even though I'm technically not an employee. I did a one-time gig for them. Do they need to respond to this notice? Did I fill out my claim incorrectly when reporting income? The notice seems to assume that I was an employee there and they're not sure how to fill it out. I rechecked my certification for the week I reported the income and for wage type, I correctly selected "Self Employment or Independent Contract Work Pay". Is it because I selected my employment status as "Still working part time or on-call - Related to the coronavirus (COVID-19)"?

If you're an independent contractor you should have put yourself as the employer, not the client. Since you put the client that's why you got that notice. You have to fill out your own info for self-employment
